As a company we support and empower women (and parents) and children. Coming up to the holiday period we wanted to expand our reach and give back in more ways than just our business. This year CAKE chose to align with and support a wonderful local Brisbane charity, Share the Dignity: a mission driven organisation to end period poverty.
We chose to support their “It’s in the bag” campaign ahead of the Christmas period. We asked each person in our team donate an old handbag filled with toiletries that a woman (or teen, or mum and bub) might be very grateful to receive, especially around the holiday season so they don’t have to choose between spending their money on personal toiletry items or other life essentials.
We asked those team members who participated donate an old handbag, and CAKE covered the cost of the toiletry items each member chose.
It was a wonderful opportunity for each team member to self reflect on their own fortune, select who they would like to buy for (Adult, Teen or Mum and Bub) and to reflect on if we were in a situation where we had to flee the safety of our own homes or couldn’t afford basic toiletries, what might be of use, necessity and comfort.
One of our wonderful team members also extending the invitation from CAKE to their teenage daughters to participate and use it as a teaching moment for self reflection, gratitude for what they have, and the opportunity to be of service to others.
All bags donated by the CAKE team were dropped off to Bunnings as their collection point later in the week.
It truly was lovely to support a like-minded and aligned organisation particularly in the lead up to the holiday season.
